Module 9: Resources for Research and Venues for Sharing Information
Entries (Readings) for Module 9/Week 9 of Class
Required Entries (Readings)
Entry 1: User Experience Magazine
http://uxpamagazine.org/information-for-authors/
and
http://uxpamagazine.org/
During the quarter, we have read several entries published in the User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA)'s User Experience Magazine, and many of these entries examined trends and approaches in the areas of usability and design. As such, the magazine is a key venue through which individuals can share information with others. Authorship with the magazine is also open to anyone who might have an idea of interest to others working in these areas. Based on the work you have done for this class, you might consider reviewing the guidelines for publishing with the magazine to see if User Experience Magazine might be a venue for sharing your ideas with others.
Entry 2: IEEE Professional Communication Society Resources
https://procomm.ieee.org/resources-intro/
The IEEE Professional Communication Society (IEEE PCS) provides a range of educational resources to individuals in the fields of professional and technical communication -- both of which include a focus on usability and user experience design. Many of these resources provided by the IEEE PCS are aimed at educators in these fields or at engineers who are seeking information on different professional communication topics. The related resources provided by the IEEE PCS can range from short texts/articles to podcasts and are open to anyone with a good idea that might be of interest to the afore-mentioned audiences. (All of these audiences are interested in topics relating to usability and design.) You might consider drawing from the work you have done in usability to create one (or more) of these resources to share with these audiences. As you review the kinds of entries listed on these pages, consider how you might share your own usability-related work through such venues.
Entry 3: Society for Technical Communication Publications
https://www.tcbok.org/contribute/
https://www.stc.org/srcs-notebook-official-blog/
and
https://www.stc.org/intercom/
The largest US-based organization in the field, the Society for Technical Communication (STC) regularly provides members with information and updates on areas of usability and design. The organization also regularly seeks input from others on how to better engage in such practices. Venues you might consider for sharing your ideas on these topics include
